Ok folks, this is a little different from my standard. I'm not coming to you in a review capacity, I'm coming to you as a gamer. One that has been gaming for most of my 24 years of exsistance on this planet. Don't worry, I'm not going to stop reviewing. You're gonna get another review this wednesday, God willing. I'm here to talk to you about....
CONSOLE WARS!
Yes I'm going to give my two cents, and if you don't like it, then stop reading now.
Alright, if you haven't figured it out by now from my reviews. I'm a 360 gamer, I can already hear people calling me a loser and an idiot for not playing the PS3. These are the people I'm frustrated and pissed off about. So what I play a 360, it's my choice. Personally in my house all three of the current generation consoles "live" in harmony. Why is it that when new consoles come out, there has to be a divide in the gaming community? Why do we have to call each other idiots, dumbasses, retartds, and other such nonsense just because we don't share your PREFERENCE for a gaming console? Have we as gamers fallen so far that we have to make stupid, and childish insults just because we don't like someone's choice in their ENTERTAINMENT?
I realize that it's human nature to have our voices heard, and that most of us think that only our oppinons matter. Here's the kicker though, no one cares besides you. Ok, ok, ok. There maybe other people who share in your oppinions, but when it comes to society as a whole, no one else cares. The "Console Wars" is the prime example of this. The gaming community is split between 4 factions. The PS3 fans, the Wii fans, the 360 fans, and the PC fans. Before you ask, yes I've seen many PC people entering the fray and joining the childish namecalling. Why? Who knows for sure. I can understand being pasonate about your perfered method of entertainment, but come on people!
I'm bringing this all up because of the militant stance the community of Gamespot has taken over the announcement of Microsoft rasing the price of XBL. Now I can tell you as a 360 gamer, I don't give two shits that the price is going up by $10 for a year subscription. If you want to read the full story here's the link. Now as I said, I don't care one way or the other, but understanably there are people outraged by this. Others....see this as a perfect opportunity to use this to solidify their position to tell the world why they think their console is the best. Why? Because they're idiots!
I think it's about time the gaming community woke up. This generation of consoles is probably the most even consoles ever made. We've reached a point in gaming that each of the consoles (I'm not going to include PC in on this, because PC has always had the upper hand when it comes to gaming) is pretty much the same console, just packaged in a different case. This "Console War" is fucking retarded. We have the opportunity finally come together and actually be human beings! Instead we act like we're in the 4th grade, trying to get other people to join our side because our parents don't want to shell out the money for the other consoles. This fanboyism has taken something that's supposed to be fun, and entertaining, and instead made it a competition to see who is the biggest at the table.
